Onsite Workshop Will Be Held August 11-14, 2009

The shortage of qualified pediatric audiologists has been frequently mentioned as one of the most pressing problems in the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention system. NCHAM, in conjunction with A. T. Still University’s Arizona School of Health Sciences, sponsored a workshop in Mesa, AZ in August, 2008 to help practicing audiologists provide comprehensive diagnostic and amplification services to infants and their families. For 6 weeks prior to the on-site workshop, more than 40 audiologists participated in on-line discussion of assigned readings. From August 5-8, 2008 the group assembled in Mesa for four days of intensive on-site instruction and practical experience in diagnostic and amplification procedures for infants and toddlers.
On-site presenters included Dr. Jay Hall, Dr. Rebekah Cunningham, Mr. Shane Moodie, Dr. Karen Ditty and Dr. Randi Winston. Participants were able to gain practical experience with the procedures presented through small group activities and testing babies ranging from a few days to 7 months of age.
Participants were encouraged to submit three diagnostic and amplification reports for infants they evaluated in their clinics to complete the requirements for 4.0 CEU’s awarded by the American Academy of Audiology.
A few of the comments received from program participants:
“This was a lot of work—but great. Learned tons.”
“I definitely feel more prepared to see my patient population”
“Excellent course. Just what I needed to refresh and improve.”
“One of the best learning experiences I have had.”
Based on overwhelmingly positive feedback from the 2008 participants, “Diagnostics and Amplification for Infants and Toddlers” will be offered at the A. T. Still University Arizona School of Health Sciences in Mesa, AZ, August 11-14, 2009. In addition to featuring the 2008 faculty, the 2009 workshop will incorporate several additional speakers and features suggested by last year’s participants.
Detailed program and registration information will be available on this website in March, 2009. Group size will be limited in order to provide the best possible learning environment for each participant. Early registration is encouraged.
