Early Hearing Loss Detection: Protocols for Diagnostic Audiological Assessment Follow-up to Newborn Hearing Screening
Hearing Screening Associates (HSA), Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the Ohio Department of Health program and the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) are partnering to offer a new training opportunity for audiologists. This instruction will be an intermediate level workshop on protocols for diagnostic audiological assessment and follow-up to Newborn Hearing.Four weeks of online preparation readings and weekly chats will prepare the student for this three-day onsite workshop at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
The dates of the onsite workshop are:
June 1st, 2nd, & 3rd, 2017
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at

Cincinnati, Ohio
Online Instruction is required before attending On-site training
Four weeks of weekly readings and online chats will increase theoretical and clinical knowledge. The reading list includes current relevant information regarding pediatric diagnostics.
Workshop Details:
All participants will be asked to participate in a conference call along with the start of the online instruction. During that call, students will be introduced to their online mentor and briefed on procedures for the online chats.

- Impact of EHDI in the 21st Century
- Physiological Procedures for Infant Auditory Assessment
- Case History, Tympanometry & Otoacoustic Emissions
- Click and Tone Burst, Air and Bone ABR, ASSR
- Using ABR for fitting amplification and strategies for Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD)
- Hands on training with Equipment
- Behavioral Audiologic and Speech Perception Assessment
- Outcomes of Children with Hearing Loss Study (OCHL)
- Amplification Verification/ Lecture and Hands on training with Real Ear measurement equipment
- When children have more than Hearing Loss
- Amplification Validation and Speech Perception Measures
- When is it time to consider BAHA or Cochlear Implants?
- Referring for a Team Assessment
- Case Studies
There will also be leading manufacturers of Audiology equipment available to generously provide hands-on opportunities with clinical diagnostic equipment.
Hands-on Experience:
Breakout hands-on sessions will afford you the opportunity to apply procedures discussed during the didactic sessions. Equipment specialists and mentors will be available to help guide you.
Registration Fee:
This workshop is open to all Audiologists; however, the registration fee will be paid for by the Ohio Department of Health for the first 23 Ohio Audiologists that register. The Ohio audiologists must be currently reporting test results to the Department of Health. This on a first come first serve basis.
All other Audiologists that register will pay a $150 Registration fee.
Included with the registration are 4 weeks of online chats, 3 days onsite training (breakfast and lunch included) at Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital. Audiologists will be required to attend all 4 weeks of the online training (one hour each week) to be considered for registration for the onsite workshop.

AAA CEUs
AAA CEU American Academy of Audiology (AAA) CEUs are pending and will be available for this course, approximately 28 hours (2.8 CEUs). Instructional level for this course is: Intermediate level. The National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) out of Utah State University is approved by the American Academy of Audiology to offer Academy CEUs for this activity.

Arrangements have been made for lodging at the Kingsgate Marriott Conference Center at the University of Cincinnati
